The bottom O-ring at the base of the tank glass does seem a little thin. There is plenty of room for filling and you will have no issues since there are wide slots at both sides. In terms of the whole turbine terminology don't for one minute assume its anything fancy, since this is just a marketing term. There are no moving parts at work here and you could argue that it is actually misleading but it refers to the four intakes at the base of the tank and the vertically wired dual coils.
It is necessary at this point to offer two different sets of feedback regarding the Arctic tanks. I have had nothing but issues with this tank from the very first moment I filled it. It is typical with any of these sub ohm tanks to allow a certain period of time to pass after saturating the coil wicking. In some cases it is ten minutes for others it could be twenty. The Bottom Turbine Coil Tank has issues and leaks like a sieve.
The tank glass actually sweats and after leaving it for a while you can feel that it is damp to the touch. Furthermore the tank actually leaks straight out the air hole slots. Thankfully my mod was undamaged. After fully checking the coil was completely screwed in and that no other part of the tank was loose I then filled it halfway, screwed it on to an atty stand and then placed it on a saucer.
Within the next two hours the contents of the tank had fully leaked out. I have tested this a further two times and to be honest considering the amount of juice it has wasted so far I refuse to put any more in it. So it leaks badly, however there is worse to come. The vape itself while being very dense in the vapour department and something that should please any cloud chaser is absolutely revolting. The taste left in the mouth after using any liquid is utterly foul. For some reason these nasty coils have some unpleasant residue in the cotton or have been stored in a inappropriate place but whatever the truth of the matter is I felt physically sick and it gave me a terrible headache.
The 0. I stripped down one of the coils and I could clearly see that the wire has become very black in two places, the cotton itself does not feel like organic cotton, it feels very thick to the touch and not very absorbent. Also where the cotton rests next to the wire it has become blackened by heavy scorching. This should not be happening at the wattages the coils are claimed to be rated for. Now I'm sure many of you are thinking that its quite likely that this is a single isolated incident.
Well interestingly enough it has come to light in the forum that others are having exactly the same problem and the foul coil taste is a common issue. It does lessen somewhat after three to four refills but lets be totally honest do you want to waste that much liquid and vape whatever obnoxious substance is in these coils until it starts to taste right? No of course you don't.
Further investigating known Arctic tank issues prompted me to watch a review by Rip Trippers on YouTube, now while I don't always agree with his opinion on everything he is absolutely spot on regarding his comments for this tank. He stated that the coils also left this nasty taste as if they had been stored in some foul, unmentionable place and I am putting it far more delicately than he did.
If you have this tank and you have exactly the same issues I would seriously think about getting in touch with HorizonTech and making your feelings known because this simply isn't on. Initially the Bottom Dual Coil had no leaking problems but after leaving the tank overnight half full, the next morning I had the same result, a drenched Sigelei mod. In terms of flavour the dual coil isn't as bad, its not fantastic but it is a reasonably decent vape.
Once in a while you do taste the slightest hint of something artificial. I can't be certain what but its almost like a slight rubber taste, maybe plastic. Whatever it is it kind of taints your flavour which is never good. The airflow is very good albeit rather noisy fully opened up, but it does produce a lot of vapour. The tank itself is huge, kind of unwieldy for those who want to vape while out and about but for a tank at home it may be useful, especially if you don't like having to refill often.
So despite the BDC tank being very problematic the BTDC version is certainly a little better but overall another disappointment, a real shame because the generally good machining and the large capacity should have made it a winner. If I hadn't first thoroughly washed both tanks then my first thought would be machine oil. Surprisingly the tanks had no unpleasant smells but I washed them anyway which is what I do with all new tanks.
If I were to speculate I would say that HorizonTech have a major problem with the production quality of their coils. In the case of the Bottom Turbine Tank I suspect they have been cheaply made, that they don't use the materials claimed or that they have been contaminated by machine oil or something worse.
The leaking I attribute to possibly inferior material and the inability of the tank wicking to absorb the liquid properly. The leaking I attribute to possibly inferior material and the inability of the tank wicking to absorb the liquid properly.
I have looked at a great deal of information regarding the coil problem. Some people suggest soaking them in boiling water followed by leaving them to dry out on top of a paper towel for twenty four hours. Others state that its a case of breaking them in by running a few tanks worth through them, Well I disagree with this method since I don't want to be vaping some unknown chemical until the unpleasant taste goes away and neither should anyone else.
Regardless according to HorizonTech's website the tanks can use either coil. Further reading has also suggested that the once the liquid drops to beneath the level of the top most dual coil it is prone to burning out and once your coil starts to fry it will of course wreck your vaping experience. As for the leaking I have not found a cause for it beyond my speculation that the cotton is poor quality or that the coils are not fitting securely.
I would suggest that if you use this tank that you vape off what you fill and make sure you leave it empty overnight. Regarding the coils themselves, juice them heavily before use and if in doubt juice them again.
Fit them into the tank and fill it up but leave it at least thirty minutes before you use it. Start at watts and gradually increase because I have found that the hint of an unpleasant taste will occur at 30 watts initially but starts to go away if you only ramp up the watts very gradually. Certainly I wouldn't run the 0. I feel w should really be your limit since these coils are frankly not that good. There are numerous problems here certainly. The tanks themselves are very well made and could be potentially excellent but the coils are largely undesirable to use in their current state.
No consumer should have to boil the coils they have purchased to get a decent vape, nor should they have to concern themselves with watching tank fill levels or vaping at a lower wattage when the coils are rated far higher. Considering the sheer amount of messing about a user has to experience with this product I would personally suggest you look at other tanks. There is a great deal of choice in the vaping market and as consumers we can certainly afford to be selective about what we choose to use.
I am left feeling extremely disappointing because these tanks could have been great products and if not for the leaking and the poor quality coils they would be. I do wonder how Oscar Wilde would have put it if he had ever vaped in his lifetime:. To make one poor coil could be considered accidental. To make a whole bunch of them seems like carelessness.
